Substandard for a stout

Dull
So there I was, standing motionless in the ''build your own six pack'' section, searching for the last beer to fill my quota. Truth be told, I couldn't care less what the beer was as long as it would help me fill up the six pack and get out the door where I could go home and drink them all. I realized that I had already picked up a couple offerings from Dundee Brewing Company, so when I saw their Dundee Stout, I thought to myself ''What the heck? It's a stout. Give it a whirl.'' So after throwing it in the pack I was off to the register, and very shortly after, on my way home.

Now normally I wouldn't do what I'm about to do, but unfortunately today just happens to be one of those days where I'm not in the mood to deal with a lot of nonsense or fluff. So getting directly to the point, everything about this beer screamed watered down. When I poured it, the coloration looked slightly off, and took on a look closer to a cola that to a stout. When I got my nose in the glass, the aromas came across as a little weak, and again... watered down. There were some basic chocolate malts, a faint nutty aroma, and at one point I even detected something that came across as just sour.

Going in for the first taste, I wasn't expecting much, and believe me when I say that was a good thing. If you can try to imagine what a fair stout would taste like if you poured a quarter of the pint out and filled it back up with water, then you have at basic idea of what this one tasted like. Again, there was a faint chocolate flavor that followed the nose perfectly, and right after it, that sour smell detected earlier makes itself known. It almost comes across like tart cherries, except it doesn't have as prolific of a profile. The mouthfeel is as you would expect from what you have already read, in the sense that it to is thin, and unfortunately the only aftertaste is that sour confusion all over again.

In all honesty, it makes me kind of sad that I yet again came across and offering from Dundee Brewing Company that has left me completely underwhelmed. The Dundee Stout won't be going on any recommendation lists as far as I'm concerned, and should really only be viewed as an ''in a pinch'' brew. It only vaguely represents the style it claims, and there are far better versions of the stout style out there that are readily available with minimal effort.
