So just when you think you've heard it all, leave it to the craft brew world to throw you for one deliciously mouth watering loop. We have all heard of an I.P.A. And I'm pretty sure we have all heard of a brown ale. They are two distinctly different styles, and both delicious in their own rights. So isn't it obvious that it was only a matter of time before someone made a combination of the two? I know you are probably shaking your head in total disbelief just like I was, but let me be the first to tell you that not only have the people at Terrapin Brewing Company taken on this task, but they completely knocked it out of the park in the form of Hop Karma Brown I.P.A.

When poured, Hop Karma takes on a murky, dark brown coloration that is practically opaque, and carries a thick tan head that provides plenty of lacing throughout the session. Getting your nose in close allows you to pick up on a nice bouquet of chocolates, roasted malts, and molasses right off the bat. To be honest, it's rather sweet introduction is very unexpected, but also very enticing. After a bit of warming time, you are able to pick up on a deep earthy, and somewhat pungent hops profile that has a dirty orange and grapefruit feel to it. At times, there is even an oily tobacco smell to it that really causes the imagination to run wild with anticipation of the first sip.

When it finally comes, you have one of those ''Wow! This is an amazing beer!'' moments that better beer lovers dream of. A velvety mouthfeel ushers in an incredibly balanced flavor train of sweet chocolates, and light coffee notes contrasted beautifully by those earthy hops noted earlier in the nose. The hops work more in the tongue bite fashion as opposed to a face twisting bitter blast. Granted, the citrus and pine aspects can be noted, but they are more like actual flavors rather than ''active'' ingredients. And just like the nose suggested, a faint but delicious tobacco mixed with espresso taste comes through very lightly after it has had some time to warm.

I know that most people tend to believe that there are only two types of karma, good and bad, floating around out there. I am here to tell you that there are actually three. There is now good, bad, and awesomely delicious. As odd as it seems on paper, Terrapin Brewing Company has managed to make a must try hybrid in the form of Hop Karma Brown I.P.A. I would have no problem recommending it to all levels of drinkers out there. It is one of those rare beers that is a treat for both ends of the spectrum. The more experienced drinkers can really sit and dissect it from multiple angles, all of which turn out to be fantastic, while those new to the game have a chance to drink one of the more special offerings our better beer world has to offer without having their palate be put through the ringer in the process. So by all means, seek this one out and get it in your glass as soon as possible. In life, good karma is always welcome, but delicious karma is indeed divine.
