Do It Right and Let It Be
A Review of Titan IPA by Great Divide Brewing Co.

This review will probably be pretty short, but not because Titan IPA is a bad beer. Quite the opposite actually, Titan IPA is a great beer. As I've said many times before with IPAs, there isn't any complex formula to rating the style. It has to be deliciously hoppy and the strength has to match. For the few breweries that are able to get the balance right and let it be, there's not much else to say about the beer. Great Divide created a very nice IPA and felt there was no need to put any kind of unnecessary personal spin on it. Game. Set. Match.

Once in the glass, you notice that beautiful deep honey coloration, pretty standard for it's ABV range. You can smell those big succulent hops right off the bat. The aroma is very clean and tangy with lots of pine notes. I also detect hints of grapefruit and other lighter floral smells. The taste is nicely balanced with pleasant hops up front and a nice sweet citrus middle ground. It's not overly aggressive and is actually quite smooth for a 7.1% ABV. The finish is crisp and dry, leaving a clean, mildly bitter aftertaste. The highlight of this beer is the definitely mouthfeel. It's very smooth and only moderately bitter, allowing for a lengthy enjoyment of a strong IPA.

Overall, Titan IPA is a great beer. Yup, that's pretty much it. There are no funky tastes to dissect, no imbalances to highlight, no aggressions to warn about, nothing. It's just a very nice IPA. I'd recommend it to any style camp because any beer fan can appreciate it. It's one of those few IPAs out there that you can drink anytime, anywhere. It's the answer to that age old newbie question: what's a great IPA? Titan.
