Both bridge builder and destination

Review of Founders Porter from Founders Brewing Co.  (Exquisite)
Posted by Chops (loved) on 2/20/2013, 2 comments, 8 ratings
Ask any beer geek to name the top five breweries in America. I guarantee that Founders would almost certainly make the list. This brewery is very well known for their high quality behemoths. Once a brewery ventures into the magical world of imperials, quality can suffer due to lack of...  more »

Hunting ghost hops

Review of New World Porter from Avery Brewing Co.  (Great)
Posted by Chops (loved) on 2/18/2013, 2 comments, 9 ratings
You can learn about about a brewery based on their focus. A brewery that mercilessly distributes its products is generally focused on the bottom line. A brewery that produces reliably fantastic beer is generally focused on the quality of its products. The Avery Brewing Company out of...  more »

Review of Peanut Butter Porter from Bull City Burger and Brewery  (Great)
Posted by Chops (loved) on 12/16/2012, 0 comments, 7 ratings
Back in August of this year, BrewChief was asked to judge the Bull City Burger and Brewery's annual Home Brew Competition. The winner gets to see their creation scaled up and served at the brewery. It was a tight contest full of unique and tasty brews. Victory went to Ryan Weir's Pean...  more »

Review of Dominion Baltic Porter from Old Dominion Brewing Co.  (Great)

So, Thanksgiving is upon us. And while I know that many of you will indulge in a couple of tasty pumpkin brews during your holiday feast at some point, I also know that none of you have to deal with my family while doing so. Now don't get me wrong. I love my family, and would proba...  more »

Setting a record in style

Review of Thunderstruck Coffee Porter from Highland Brewing Co.  (Great)
Posted by Brew's Your Daddy (loved) on 11/15/2012, 2 comments, 7 ratings
I am almost positive it was a record. I could be wrong, but I defy anyone to top it. In and out in less than 2 minutes. That was how long it took me to get out of my car, walk into the beer store, select a never before sampled beer, pay for it, and be back in my car. It all happen...  more »

Bridge building through nitrogen

Review of Frank Graham Porter from Top of the Hill Brewery  (Great)
Posted by Chops (loved) on 11/2/2012, 2 comments, 7 ratings
Ah, the nitro beer. Few things are more delectable in the lands of craft beer. For those needing an explanation, just think of that thick creamy head you find on a chilled pint of Guinness. When used instead of CO2, nitrogen gives beer a creamy fuller bodied feel that significantly so...  more »

Cold coffee

Review of Summit Great Northern Porter from Summit Brewing Co.  (Good)
Posted by JuicesFlowing (liked) on 10/30/2012, 2 comments, 8 ratings
My only other experience with Summit Brewing was from their Oktoberfest-Marzen beer a month or so ago, and I really liked what they did with that, so it's only natural that I should see what one of their year-round offerings would present. For this excursion, I chose my favorite ballo...  more »

An imperial brew I can really sink my teeth into

Review of Nefarious Ten Pin from Ska Brewing Co.  (Great)
Posted by JuicesFlowing (liked) on 10/26/2012, 1 comment, 7 ratings
I'm not going to lie, sometimes I find imperial brews intimidating. I like my beers, well, to taste like something, and not like an alcohol bomb. That's where I've run into trouble with several imperial versions of beers I've come across. Not so much in Nefarious Ten Pin Porter by Ska...  more »

The tumultuous journey continues

Review of Ravell from Magic Hat Brewing Co.  (Good)
Posted by Chops (loved) on 10/22/2012, 0 comments, 6 ratings
Magic Hat is a peculiar brewery. They have a pretty vicious preference swing that allows their products to appeal to many different consumer groups. Some beers can be reviled by craft beer geeks yet be hailed by the wine cooler crown. Yet other brews can turn heads on the upper tiers...  more »

Good beer, no shit

Review of Road Dog from Flying Dog Brewing Co.  (Great)
Posted by Chops (loved) on 10/15/2012, 2 comments, 7 ratings
Good beer, no shit. That's the motto stamped on the bottle of Flying Dog's Road Dog Porter. Seriously, who could resist giving this beer a try with an assertion like that? Apparently the Colorado state liquor board tried to ban the brewery from selling this beer based on the label. Fl...  more »
