I tried Sweetwater Blue for the first time this past weekend, and wow was I pleasantly surprised. I bought it because I thought my wife would love it (nailed that) and it looked like something fun to try as summer kicks in, but I expected more of a novelty beer, something to drink one of before moving to something more.. profound. I still haven't moved on.

While it is somewhat of a novelty (if you don't like blueberries, you won't like this beer), I found myself ready, willing and able to drink about as many of these as I could find on the night we cracked them open. They smell absolutely great - the blueberry aroma is strong but pleasant and hints at what's to come. The taste is delicious - not overwhelmingly blueberry-tastic, just enough to leave a nice taste in your mouth and leave said mouth watering for the next one. It's a beer anyone can enjoy, and while not everyone will want to spend all night drinking these, I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with a six pack on the patio or at the beach.

All in all, Sweetwater Blue is very smooth and very drinkable - a perfect summer brew.

I can speak of this beer on a "local" level and say that while I have never been a diehard fan of it, I can enjoy one or two for what they are. It has a lot of good flavor, and can be pretty crisp and refreshing. I just think on occasion it comes across as a bit too sweet. That could just be a personal preference though. Very glad to hear you and your wife loved it though!

Agreed. If fruit beers are done right, they can be really rewarding brews (Unibroue's Éphémère Apple comes to mind). I haven't come across the Sweetwater Blue yet, but at least it's from a really good brewery, so I would assume they know what they are doing. I'll keep an eye out for it.

As long as you're not drinking that Wild Blue nonsense from Anheuser-Busch, we're all good in the hood! Drink it up and enjoy the summer! Cheers!

Just want to second Hop Head Fred's comment. If I had to make a top 5 list of ultimate brew tragedies, Wild Blue would be a contender for top spot. That blueberry backwash is criminally terrible.
