It's summertime in the Bull City and beer fans are making their brewery rounds. With so many delicious summery brews to choose from, it can be difficult for breweries to make a meaningful impression. But whenever I crave something new and interesting, I can always depend on the Bull City Burger and Brewery. In an effort to beat the heat, I recently copped a squat at the BCBB bar. On the menu was their new Liberty Summer Amber Ale. Mmm, just what a sweaty beer fan needed.

In the glass, this brew has a warm honey coloration with more of an amber tinting. It's on the lighter side of amber, which is to be expected from a summery version. It comes with a frothy white head that has pretty good retention. On the nose, I found a very nice balance of hoppy citrus and sweet candied malts. Based on the introduction alone, this beer actually comes across as more of a pale amber hybrid.

The intro foreshadows the flavor quite well. You can immediately latch onto a sweet candied malt character that takes the form of savory tropical fruits. From there it's onto a warm earthy hop profile which adds a nice citrus sting to the fruity notes. I also detected some nondescript herbal qualities floating around. It's all beautifully balanced to form a light and easy drinking yet flavorful summer brew. The finish is very clean and leaves behind a dry bitter aftertaste with a whiff of malty sweetness.

Overall, the Liberty Summer Amber Ale from Bull City Burger and Brewery is a delightful summertime treat. I can recommend this brew to all levels of beer fans, but especially to novices. More often times than not, hot summer days and crappy beers go hand in hand, and we need more beers like the Liberty Summer Amber Ale to dispel that notion. Just because I feel sand between my toes doesn't mean I want a bland and forgettable beer. Quite the contrary. I want a flavorful easy drinking brew like Liberty that can steal my attention for long enough to say ''wow, now that's a damn good beer.''

This sounds like an amazingly delicious brew. Considering it is from Bull City Burger and Brewery, I would expect nothing less. Seems like they are one of those breweries who just "get it". As simple as "make good beer that tastes good" sounds, not too many places seem to knock them out of the park with the regularity that Bull City does.

Agreed. BCBB is one of those breweries where you can fully expect a certain level of higher quality. An anomaly for them would not be a world-class brew. Rather, I'd be shocked if I found something that was merely decent.
