The short and sweet: They named it absolutely spot on. Angry Boy Brown Ale is angry.
You know, pouring this, you'd maybe expect something not so angry. It's more reddish-orange than it is orangish red, and holding it up to the light you might think that, given the right glass, it could *almost* be see-though. It doesn't skimp on headiness (although the bubbles are veritable warts compared to the beauty marks of most heady beers) (that is, huge -- not ungainly -- I actually find this beer to be rather handsome!), and it even lingers after a few minutes as a good film on top that seems to just DARE you to break it.
The first drink is like a kick in the face, but I was bracing for it (based on the name). This guy has the aftertaste of burnt-ness, but it's only aftertaste insofar as you taste it just a few moments after it first hits your mouth. If you take wee sips of it, it actually has a reasonable sweetness to it, but you'll still get the bitterness as the main flavor. Because of this, I can't really taste anything too distinct with it. I get flashes of ''Kokohead Brown'' by Kona Brewing but without the hint of coconut (so this IS a brown ale), and much more potent.
The bottle mentions a burning, but I'm not really getting that with this guy to be honest. It also self-describes as having a ''malty sweetness,'' but I'm not picking up on the maltiness so it's hard to tell. In my humble opinion, this guy comes off as a good IPA.
Now WITH ALL OF THAT SAID, I think this beer would make a GREAT addition to some Indian food. I don't know what it is about it, but I get the feeling that all of this bottled rage mixed in with some spicy curry would just melt my face in a good way. So if you find it, by all means give it a try. If you're that brave (or into pain), you're in for a treat.
(Update: most of the bottle later, I've discovered the malty sweetness. Take that as you will.)
(P.P.S. -- DEFINITELY a good beer to go with Indian food.)

Well this sounds like a beer with some good character. I'll admit that I've never even heard of it before this review, but I guess that's one of the cool things about different people in different places doing reviews. Id be willing to give it a whirl now if it ever crossed my path.

This is great to hear, I'm always on the hunt for good strong brews to pair with hot spicy foods. Usually you just go with the most aggressive and hop intensive brew you can find in order to compete with the spices. Nice to see a worthy brown ale added to the menu. I can only handle so many Indian-IPA pairings.

You just had to throw out the Indian food pairing. Now that I'm salivating like a Pavlovian dog, I guess this beer makes it to my 'must try' list.
