It's been a long couple of weeks with no extra beer money so when payday finally came around I was at a total loss as to what to try first. Lagunitas has never failed me in the past and when I saw this limited release sitting in the cooler at Whole Foods, I couldn't resist. First off, it's WTF Ale. Need I say more? OK then,...it's description on the bottle is ''A malty, robust, jobless recovery ale''. I am not a girl to turn down a beer that bears the descriptors malty, robust or jobless recovery, so in I go.

The color is striking...beautiful red-brown that just LOOKS delicious. The head on it was creamy but not thick, like a dollop of cream cheese frosting on a pint-sized red velvet cupcake. The aroma is fabulous, although unexpected. It struck me as far more hopped than I was expecting. I was instantly nervous because of my ingrained aversion to big hops, but I was not disappointed. I found this to be perfectly balanced for my palate. Slightly spicy, perfectly malted and dark, with that kick of hops that was more delightful than off-putting.

While this was a great beer in the middle of an already fantastic day, it is not for the faint-hearted. It's a whopping 7.8% ABV in a 22oz bottle, and for a girl drinking alone, it was a lot to handle. This would be a perfect bottle to share with someone, as long as they can appreciate this as an 'OMG...this is GREAT!' beer as opposed to 'WTF??'

Ive just now started working my way through their line. I am finding that I am being pleasantly surprised more than I am disappointed. I look forward to trying more of their offerings.

"Cream cheese frosting on a pint-sized red velvet cupcake..." You actually made me drool a bit on that one, hehe. I've passed this one up a few times in the store, but the label always makes me giggle. It may find it's way into my cart next time.

I just had the Wilco Tango Foxtrot Ale based on your recommendation and holy hell is this a tasty beer! I think this has become my favorite Lagunitas product.
